Omari Benjamin, a teenage sensation, scored the game-winning goal on Saturday, March 2, while still on trial, and Everton is now considering buying him.
The current Arsenal forward is reportedly on trial at Goodison Park and scored the game-winning goal for the Under-21 squad over the weekend against Tottenham Hotspur, according to a report published on the Liverpool Echo’s website on March 4.
And now that the 18-year-old made an impression in the match, the Toffees are considering bringing him on board permanently as Finch Farm’s coaches evaluate his skills.
Everton’s gaze towards the future
With players like Youssef Chermiti and James Garner joining the team at a young age, Everton’s youth levels have seen a significant uptick recently.
But with Lewis Dobbin a regular in the matchday squad and Jarrad Branthwaite a regular in the starting lineup, Sean Dyche has also given players from the academy a platform to succeed.
With top young prospects and full internationals earning large salaries ahead of him in the Arsenal hierarchy, Benjamin might view that as a viable road to regular first-team football.
The club would be foolish to overlook him if he can fit into the normal playing style that the academy employs. He might potentially have an impact on the first team.
It might not be the easiest transaction to make because of his unclear circumstances at Arsenal, but a new attacking star might soon arrive on Merseyside.
