Chris Sutton delivers Rangers reality check to panicking fan as Celtic hero halts ‘worried’ on air punter
Despite Rangers’ current top-of-the-table position, one Ibrox supporter was unimpressed.
Chris Sutton, a Celtic idol, believes Rangers fans should be “delighted” with their position at the Premiership summit, despite misgivings from the light blue Legion.
After losing 2-1 at home to Motherwell, Philippe Clement’s side had a chance to reclaim the top spot.
However, Celtic’s setback to Hearts less than 24 hours later keeps them two points ahead. A Rangers fan expressed anxiety to Sutton on BBC 5 Live Sport, despite their team’s two-point lead over Glasgow rivals.
Concerned caller George described the Gers outcome as “seriously worrying” and went on to downplay Clement’s record, which saw a winning streak
abruptly halt with Stuart Kettlewell’s team. He went on to say “even though they’ve won 11 in a row, hardly any of them have been convincing” .
Sutton answered, “It’s mad in Glasgow because both groups of fans feel the same way. It’s a fascinating one.
I was with Kris Boyd, who graciously gave me a lift and we chatted afterwards. Of course, he was pleased that Celtic lost, but they could have been five points ahead now.
“This one’s for you, George. What Philippe Clement has accomplished since his arrival must be reversed. He discovered a way to win games.
“The Kilmarnock game was a real banana skin, but they came back to win. Overall, you must be thrilled to be in this situation right now.”
