Prior to the Gers’ match against Motherwell, Rangers manager Philippe Clement has revealed that Oscar Cortes has sustained a significant injury and will be sidelined for an extended period of time.
The Light Blues, who are leading the Scottish Premiership table over Celtic, will host Stuart Kettlewell’s team at Ibrox on Saturday, March 2, although they will be without their Colombian winger.
In his pre-match press conference on Friday, March 1, Clement had stated that the 20-year-old will miss the encounter on Saturday. However, the Belgian forward had revealed that the problem was more serious prior to the match against Motherwell.
In an interview with RangersTV on Saturday, March 2, he stated: “Oscar will be out for a long time due to a serious injury.” Given what he performed, it’s odd that he would sustain such an injury. We must determine whether to proceed with the operation and speak with Lens about it.
When will Oscar Cortes be able to return to action with the Rangers?
Although Mohamed Diomande has performed well for the Light Blues, few players have been as well as Cortes since he arrived at Ibrox. Rangers have earned a lot of accolades for their superb January signings.
Supporters may not get to watch the 20-year-old play for a few weeks at the worst, and if surgery is necessary, that time frame may extend to months, which could theoretically signal the end of Cortes’ season.
Cortes is unquestionably one of Clement’s main stars, and if his team is to defeat Celtic to win the Premiership this year, they will need to have all of their best players available and healthy from now until the end of the campaign.
It’s to be hoped that he recovers more quickly than anticipated and can play again in the upcoming weeks and months. However, it will be intriguing to watch how this latest setback in his injury history may affect a potential permanent transition.
