Serious injury news confirmed at Ibrox minutes before Rangers v Motherwell

Rangers: Philippe Clement confirms ‘serious’ Oscar Cortes injury update ahead of Motherwell clash.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has revealed that Oscar Cortes has suffered a major injury and will be sidelined for the long term ahead of the Gers’ match against Motherwell.

The Light Blues welcome Stuart Kettlewell’s side to Ibrox on Saturday (2 March), looking to extend their advantage over Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership standings, but are missing their Colombian winger.

Clement had acknowledged in his pre-match press conference on Friday (1 March) that the 20-year-old would miss Saturday’s encounter, but the Belgian revealed before of the Motherwell game that the problem was more serious.

On Saturday (2 March), he told RangersTV that Oscar has a serious injury that will require him to miss a significant amount of time.

It’s strange that he’s injured after doing what he did. We need to decide whether to perform the operation or not, and we’ll also consult with Lens about it.

When will Oscar Cortes be able to play for Rangers again?

Rangers have won acclaim for their good January acquisitions. While Mohamed Diomande has impressed, Cortes has been particularly impressive since his arrival at Ibrox.

It doesn’t sound like fans will see the 20-year-old in action for at least a few weeks, and that might stretch to months if Cortes requires surgery, which could mean his season is gone.

To compete with Celtic for the Premiership title, Clement’s team must have their top players available from now until the end of the season. Cortes is an important player for Clement.

Hopefully, he will recuperate faster than expected and return to the fold in the coming weeks and months, fit and ready, but it will be interesting to observe how this latest injury blow may affect a possible permanent transition.
