There are a number of indications that Michael Keane will most certainly leave Everton in the summer, making his future there unclear.
Even though Keane’s contract is set to expire in2025, his lack of appearances in senior games since December 30 indicates that Sean Dyche does not believe in him.
He has only made four Premier League starts this season, and two of those came in August, which is bad news for any player in the professional league.
Even if he scored in a recent game for the Under-21s, this shows where Dyche views his current performance level.
The 31-year-old has been on the bench for matchday squads, but he hasn’t played any minutes, which points to a waning role for him on the club.
This season, Keane has had trouble at Everton.
Concerns are also raised statistically by Keane’s performance indicators.
His low tackle and block averages (0.92/90 minutes) put him in a poor position relative to other centre backs in the top five European leagues.
Ninety percent of centre backs in Europe’s top leagues, according to Fbref, make more tackles than him, and seventy percent make more blocks.
His pass accuracy of 72%, which puts him in the bottom 2% of central defenders in Europe, is the most concerning of all.
Everton must make transfers in order to raise funds.
Keane is not getting any younger at age 31, so the Toffees may want to trade him during the next transfer window in an effort to restructure the team and possibly salvage some money before his contract ends.
He even had concerns about an injury a few months ago, which is another reason why the club would consider selling.
His underwhelming showing in the Merseyside Derby suggests he might be done at the highest level and is not required for the Goodison Park first squad.
