Tom Collomosse claims that in advance of Callum O’Hare’s contract expiring in the summer, Rangers are “monitoring” the midfielder for Coventry City.
The 25-year-old is already free to negotiate a contract with a team outside of England, and the Light Blues and Old Firm rivals Celtic are both considering him, according to a Daily Mail journalist who tweeted on March 1.
Spanish teams are also interested in him, as three are scheduled to send scouts to watch him play on Friday night (1 March).
Think that up to three La Liga teams will attend Callum O’Hare’s Coventry game against West Brom on Friday, according to Collomosse.
O’Hare’s contract expires this summer, so he’s free to negotiate deals with teams outside of England. Celtic/rangers also keep an eye on things.
Is Rangers going to compete with Celtic for free agents?
With players who are out of contract or about to expire, O’Hare would undoubtedly represent the kind of inexpensive pickup that has defined recent transfer windows at Ibrox.
Free agents from English teams have sent players like Tom Lawrence, Jack Butland, and Dujon Sterling to Glasgow, where they have all made significant contributions—at least while healthy.
Although the troubles of Nico Raskin and Jose Cifuentes this season have made that more of a mixed bag, Todd Cantwell leads the number of low-cost signings who were originally scheduled to leave within months.
With Celtic in the mix, there’s a chance that Englishman O’Hare will line up in opposition, as is sometimes the case with prospective targets, but his nine goals and four assists in all competitions this season indicate he could be an intriguing addition to Philippe Clement’s squad.
Rangers will likely need to start discussions as soon as possible if they want to stay ahead of the competition, but it might be a tough race to win regardless of whether Spanish teams show up at The Hawthorns.
Even with Cantwell out due to injury, attacking midfield is arguably not a key necessity for the thriving Gers side right now, but adding from a position of strength can’t be ruled out because the management won’t want to take anything for granted.
