In the midst of a second FFP charge, Everton interim CEO Colin Chong has claimed that the team is putting together the “most robust case possible”.
The Toffees, who were found guilty of a Profit and Sustainability penalty, were victorious in their appeal against the Premier League’s initial 10-point deduction.
Following an independent panel’s examination, the 10-point deduction was lowered to six, moving Everton up to the fifteenth spot in the standings. But there’s still another obstacle to conquer.
“Premier League rules and legal guidance does not permit me, or the club, to share any details at this stage of the second commission hearing, or the arguments that will be put forward,” Chong stated in a statement provided to Liverpool Echo on March 2.
“But rest assured, we will put together the strongest defence possible.”
Everton will keep battling against Premier League accusations.
On Monday, February 26, Goodison Park supporters were relieved to finally learn the outcome of their appeal, lifting a cloud over the team.
The move could not have come at a better moment for Sean Dyche’s team, who moved up from 17th to 15th place in the Premier League standings, surpassing Nottingham Forest and Brentford.
Everton was on the verge of relegation, having lost their last nine league games, and Luton Town was closing in, threatening to play Championship football for the third straight year.
This may or may not explain the recent poor outcomes, as players are under intense pressure to perform well in the face of an unclear and distressing point-deduction scenario. It’s been terrifyingly uncertain.
Even though the appeal was granted, it seems that there is no clear end to the matter. Everton supporters have been outstanding in their advocacy for their team and against the Premier League, and they might need to do so once again.
