“Almost there” – Injury update sees Rangers forward drop playing return hint

“Almost there” – Injury update sees Rangers forward drop playing return hint.

It’s easy to get irritated with Cyriel Dessers when he is leading the line for Rangers but it has to be recalled that he should only be playing a supporting role to Danilo.

The Brazilian was the signing of the summer in a reported £6m deal but Gers boss Philippe Clement has rarely been able to pick him due to two injuries that couldn’t have been unluckier.

Rangers are having to make due without Danilo for the long term albeit with Fabio Silva providing a different type of option, an optimistic social media post hinting that the 24-year old is positive that he will be back soon.

Rangers fans given boost with Danilo training update

Dessers stats have been excellent since Clement turned over at Ibrox and altered the fortunes of several players of his squad.

The trouble is, he just isn’t consistent enough — even within a 90 minute performance.

A fully fit Danilo would be a fascinating proposition in this Rangers squad, with his two absences coming just when he was hitting form.

A shattered cheek bone occurred when scoring a goal followed by a lateral collateral knee ligament damage that was nothing more than an innocuous coming together.

An incident that didn’t lead to him needing to undergo treatment and one that he was able to play on with.

A slight knock that has resulted to significant open surgery needing to be done.

His recent update is a step in the right direction, literally.

He’s not exactly performing shuttles but single leg squats are a box that needs to be ticked before any athlete can return to the open chain workouts that proceed to running – “almost there” the striker has hinted.

The good thing is, it looks like Danilo hasn’t had any set backs so far because, every time he has produced a new video, it has been one that is more progressed from the prior.

The timeline remains long term but the season still has enough time that, if he continues his current work pace, he might just be able to play his part.
