Top player’: Mike Dodds tips Sunderland ‘talent’ to have a ‘big future’, compares him to teammate

Prior to Norwich City, Sunderland manager Mike Dodds withheld praise for this “top, top” Black Cats player.

On Saturday, Sunderland will play their first Championship match away from home, against Norwich City.

With Sunderland in 10th place and Norwich City in 7th, this is a crucial game in the race for the top six. The Canaries are three points ahead of the Black Cats, who are eight points behind.

Last Saturday, Dodds’ first game back as temporary manager ended in a 2-1 loss to Swansea City at the Stadium of Light.

However, the 37-year-old claims his team has responded and practiced well this week, setting them up for a challenging match against a Norwich team that has won their last five games.

The game this weekend has also been more difficult as a result of

the information that Jack Clarke will be out for six weeks.

Romaine Mundle is praised by Mike Dodds as having “raw talent” above Norwich City.
Dodds will have to rely on others to give Sunderland the spark now that Clarke is out of the picture.

And Romaine Mundle, who was signed in January, might be that someone.

On deadline day, the 20-year-old former Spurs youth player signed a permanent contract with Sunderland, after which he made four appearances for the team in the Championship.

Although he has only started one game thus far, he might be crucial in the final stretch after Clarke’s injury.

Ahead of this weekend, Dodds discussed the former Spurs prodigy.

As a huge fan of Romaine, I can tell that she has talent from the tiny glimpses I’ve seen. I think Jack (Clarke) is a similar kind of player. There’s always a chance for luck in development, but if he puts in the necessary effort and pays attention, I believe we may have a really elite talent.

Dodds came to a conclusion:

“I think the fans should be excited about Romaine’s big future at this football club.”

Mundle must step into large shoes at Sunderland.
It appeared at the time that Mundle had been brought in to gradually ameliorate, if not completely replace, Clarke’s loss.

Although many anticipate that Clarke will go on this summer, it seems as though he may have played his last

game for the Black Cats at this time; he might be out of the lineup till the end of the campaign due to this injury.

Mundle has huge shoes to fill, so it’s possible he’ll have to step up sooner than anticipated.

He hasn’t played with Clarke long enough for us to determine whether or not he is a like for like player. However, Dodds’ high regard for the child should speak for itself; Dodds collaborated with Jude Bellingham at Birmingham City in the past.

With just 10 league appearances under his belt, four of them with Sunderland, Mundle’s remaining games this season should be considered a sort of introduction.

However, this weekend would be the ideal opportunity to insert him into the starting lineup so he can demonstrate to the supporters and Dodds what what he is able to do.

The game starts on Saturday at 3 p.m.
