‘Too strong’…Peter Crouch predicts result of Everton v West Ham this weekend
Everton is still waiting for its first victory of 2024 following last weekend’s late equalizer by Brighton & Hove Albion.
Jarrad Branthwaite appeared to have secured the elusive three points with his furious strike. But the 10-man hosts got a point thanks to a looping header from Lewis Dunk.
Sean Dyche must quickly put the South Coast heartbreak to bed as West Ham United make the trip to Goodison Park this weekend.
The team led by David Moyes has recently played inconsistently. The 4-2 victory over Brentford on Monday night was much-needed. West Ham had failed to find the back of the net once in the three games before and had let up eleven goals.
Everton does have an opportunity to snap their lengthy three-point drought, especially given the Hammers’ recent performance.
Peter Crouch backs Everton against West Ham
Dyche will be hoping his side’s defensive record is enough this weekend against a team that, until Monday’s rout, has struggled for goals of late.
This view is shared by former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch, who believes Everton will be “too strong” for the Hammers on Saturday.
Talking on the Peter Crouch Podcast, he said: “Everton at home, I think they are too strong for West Ham. 2-0 Everton for me.”
Strong belief from Crouch
Crouch’s prognosis has a lot of credibility because 2024 hasn’t been Everton’s best year yet.
For the most part, Everton’s performances have been strong; defensively, very little gets past players like Branthwaite, James Tarkowski, and Jordan Pickford.
The defensive performance of the Toffees indicates that Dyche is making a good adjustment. Everton will return to becoming a reputable mid-table team if he can figure out the ideal attacking recipe.
Regarding injuries, Dyche has disclosed that Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gana Gueye might not be ready to play on Saturday because they are both experiencing comparable groin problems.
“He (Gueye) is still getting settled in,” Dyche said to the press on Thursday. “Amadou has a similar groin issue to Gana’s that is just starting to go away, so tomorrow we’ll make more of a decision on them.”
