‘In particular…’: Sunderland boss drops exciting selection hint ahead of three-game week
Mike Dodds, who was impressed with Chris Rigg during training this week, has hinted that the young player is getting close to making his maiden Championship appearance for Sunderland.
In Sunderland’s last three home games, Rigg has made an impact coming off the bench. Given the difficult schedule of three games in seven days, Dodds has suggested that the 16-year-old is about to be given a significant chance to further impress. Additionally, while Dodds tries to control the workload of Jobe Bellingham, Pierre Ekwah, and Dan Neil, Adil Aouchiche is expected to see greater playing time.
“Adil and Riggy are good footballers and we are going to have to shuffle the pack for these games just to manage the sheer intensity of them,” Dodds stated.
It’s really challenging as your focus is constantly on Leicester, the next game, but in the end, you need to win on Saturday to determine where you stand. Maybe they will begin on Saturday.
“In particular, Riggy’s level of training has grown. He’s trained incredibly well this week, so I don’t think he’s too far away from starting for us. We’ll observe how the upcoming games proceed.
Although Bradley Dack, Aji Alese, and Corry Evans have all made great progress in their recuperations, Dodds does not see any of Sunderland’s injured players returning to action this week. Following the March international break, Patrick Roberts ought to make a comeback.
