Nottingham Forest set to land ‘draconian’ six-point deduction — Keith Wyness.

Former Everton and Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness has “no doubt” that Nottingham Forest will now face a six-point deduction for their PSR infringement.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 as well as CEO of Villa from 2016 to 2018, and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes the verdict of Everton’s appeal confirms Forest will face a similar deduction.

Forest were charged with exceeding the permissible losses under Premier League financial rules in their 2022-23 accounts.

They are due to begin their hearing shortly with a verdict expected before the end of the season.

Following Everton’s appeal, the independent commission stated that “any breach of rule E.51 (i.e. any PSR Calculation showing losses of over £105m over the relevant period) warrants a points deduction, and nothing less than a points deduction.”

As revealed by Football Insider, the paperwork from Everton’s appeal reveals that Forest are in position to incur a points deduction.

“I’m afraid it does look like that Forest will receive a six-point penalty,” Wyness told Football Insider.

“It seems to be a pretty minor breach and I think it’s over one player from what I’ve been reading.

“I don’t think there’s any doubt there’s going to have to be some sort of points deduction unless there are mitigating circumstances I’m not aware of.

“I still believe that’s the wrong sort of penalty.

“I think it’s draconian and I would hope that the commission hearing this understands that a suspended points deduction may be the best way forward or a transfer ban or a fine.

“I still believe this is too harsh.“
