Martin Keown reacts to what Jim White told him about 777 Partners amid Everton takeover

Martin Keown is worried about what Jim White revealed to him regarding 777 Partners’ takeover attempt at Everton.

Host Jim White of talk SPORT said on Friday, March 1, at 10:06 a.m., that Standard Liege, Hertha Berlin, Seville, and Vasco da Gama—all of which are at least partially owned by the American investment firm—are battling for relegation this year.

As it awaits word on whether the Premier League would sanction its purchase at Goodison Park, Keown said it’s “concerning” to hear about those sides and that it’s evident the group’s ownership model is “not working.”

“Are you worried, Martin, about the news that Standard Liege supporters demonstrated against the owners’ involvement following the most recent game?” questioned White. Currently in third place, with 777 obviously connected to them.

“Vasco da Gama in Brazil is third from bottom, Seville has been suffering at the bottom of La Liga, and Hannover Berlin is currently second-bottom in the Bundesliga. Each of them had 777 participation, and they all appear to be in a fight for relegation.

“Well, it’s clear that their ownership model is not working across Europe,” said Keown. “It is concerning. I think it was a good week for Everton getting points back again in the Premier League and that’s something, they’ve got to now focus that.

“It appears like Everton and I will need to discuss something else as soon as the points total is determined. Although it’s not ideal for the players or the spectators, they must continue to succeed on the field because they now have important games to play.

Everton takeover situation needs resolution

The situation regarding a takeover at Everton has dragged on for several months now since 777 agreed a deal with Farhad Moshiri.

However, the Premier League is obviously worried about a lot of things when determining if the group is a good fit at Goodison.

It doesn’t seem likely that it can turn around the Toffees’ fortunes after a few dismal years given that all of the clubs it is associated with are having difficulty in their respective leagues.

There needs to be a decision made one way or the other soon, though, as plans need to be put in place on how the Blues can move forward if the takeover doesn’t get the go-ahead.

The fact they were successful with their appeal against their points deduction is one positive for the club in their bid to remain in the Premier League beyond this season.
