“I was Convinced” Jeremie Frimpong’s Brother and Agent Convinced meTo Join Celtic When…

How Jeremie Frimpong’s Brother and Agent Convinced Him To Join Celtic When He Didn’t Want To.

Former Celtic right-back Jeremie Frimpong has disclosed that, despite the encouragement of his brother and agency, he originally had second thoughts about joining the team.

One of the best full-backs in Europe, Frimpong joined Bayer Leverkusen in 2021 after leaving the Hoops. He has proven to be an invaluable member of the German team, who lead the Bundesliga by eight points at the moment.

In 2019, the Dutchman signed a contract worth just 380,000 euros to join Celtic from Manchester City (Transfermarkt). But he recently acknowledged that he wasn’t initially interested in joining the team.

Even though Frimpong was just eighteen when the relocation was completed, he had some second thoughts. Speaking to Rising Ballers, he joked, “I packed to go to Celtic.”

I told the driver and my agent, “Let’s turn around; I don’t want to go any further.”

Despite this ambiguity, Frimpong’s representative took decisive action to make sure the purchase was completed. “My agent was stressing, he was so stressed,” he murmured.

“Jeremie, you don’t realize this chance—this is first-team Celtic with a great history, they play Champions League, this could change your life,” he said.

The electrifying full-back eventually moved north of the border, which was fortunate for the Hoops. On the day of the transfer deadline, Frimpong’s signing was made public, and Neil Lennon was thrilled to have him on board.

The now 23-year-old was given his first senior football opportunity by the manager who completed a nine-game winning streak and a quadruple treble. Frimpong’s brother, along with his agent, encouraged him to sign with Celtic, saying, “My brother texted me, he was on the phone.”

“He said, ‘Jeremie, forget about your friends. I know how you feel, but you said you wanted to be a football player. There comes a time in your life when you have to sacrifice a lot, including your family. Your journey begins now.'”

“Okay, we’re heading out,” I answered in response to his statement.

Frimpong and Celtic will always be appreciative that he followed their counsel. After relocating to Glasgow, the young player was well on his way to become a global superstar in the professional game.
