Matt Hughes claims that neither Jarrad Branthwaite nor Jordan Pickford’s contracts at Goodison Park have relegation release clauses from Everton.
On Thursday, February 29, a journalist for the Daily Mail revealed that the Toffees had chosen to include forced wage reductions in recent contracts, but they had rejected release clauses for some of their top players.
If Pickford and Branthwaite are demoted this season, Sean Dyche’s team will be able to sell them both to the highest bidder, while the first team players will receive significant wage reductions.
But, Everton expects the England custodian to demand a transfer if they drop into the Championship, therefore the Toffees’ custodian does not have a wage-cut option in his contract at Goodison Park.
Which Everton players, Jordan Pickford or Jarrad Branthwaite, will leave this summer?
This season, Everton has been in a relegation struggle. However, the Toffees have made significant progress towards Premier League safety after receiving four of their ten-point deduction after appealing to an independent commission.
Dyche might have to push the Toffees out of the bottom three once more if they are to avoid a second points deduction at Goodison Park due to a second charge for violating the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations.
Supporters will, however, be relieved that Everton will not be losing some of its most marketable players for pennies on the dollar this summer, as they will still be able to demand a hefty price for Pickford and Branthwaite from England’s second division.
Although Dyche’s team shouldn’t have to worry about offloading its Championship players, Everton has, for once, made sensible preparations for the practical aspects of the match at Goodison Park.
