Breaking: Dallas Cowboys to Make Veteran Wide Receiver Available Before 2024 NFL Draft

With the 24th overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, the Dallas Cowboys have a lot of options for how to employ their elite player following a fantastic 12-5 season that ended tragically. The NFC East team may decide to burn the selection on a wide receiver if one of the tier-one prospects falls through the ranks, despite being connected to offensive linemen and linebackers. It makes sense to combine superstar wideout CeeDee Lamb with a top-tier player, particularly if the Cowboys cut one of their own players prior to the draft. Dallas might make receiver Michael Gallup available in trade discussions as early as this weekend, according to uSTADIUM on Twitter (also known as X).

Dallas Cowboys WR Michael Gallup: Could be on the Move

According to uSTADIUM, the Cowboys may decide to move on from wideout Michael Gallup before to the draft. Gallup, who was selected in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, had three stellar seasons with the team, averaging 58 receptions for 908 yards and five touchdowns every 17 games. Gallup, a Colorado State product, only managed 445 receiving yards in nine games in 2021 because to injury. Even though standout receiver Amari Cooper left the squad the next season, teammate Noah Brown came in second among wideouts in terms of receiving yards. This season, Gallup was once again benched, coming in fourth in receiving yards behind veteran Brandon Cooks, tight end Jake Ferguson, and quarterback Lamb.

In 2022, Gallup agreed to a $62.5 million, five-year extension. For the 2024 season, the 27-year-old’s cap hit is $13.9 million, which is also his dead cap. His dead cap value, however, increases to $4.3 million and $8.7 million in 2025. In 2027, Gallup will become an unrestricted free agent if he fulfils the remaining terms of his contract.

Dallas Cowboys: Could Go Wide Receiver Early in Draft

If Dallas decides to move on from Michael Gallup, they may choose to pick a wide receiver early in the 2024 NFL draft. The Cowboys’ top wide receivers without Gallup would be KaVontae Turpin, CeeDee Lamb, Jarlan Tolbert, and Brandin Cooks. Lamb, a former All-Pro, will still be the best choice, but Cooks, 30, is nearing the end of his contract, and Tolbert and Turpin haven’t had much experience in the NFL.

The Cowboys could still use the 24th overall pick—as most mock drafts suggest—on an offensive lineman in a draft loaded with receiver skill, and then select a wideout with a later pick. The 58th or 87th overall picks might be available for Dallas to select Florida State’s Keon Coleman, Georgia’s Ladd McConkey, or speedster Xavier Worthy.
