Wayne Rooney harbours dreams of managing Everton and Manchester United in the future he said live on BBC Sport.
The former Toffees star, who has also had stints with Derby County and DC United, was fired by Birmingham City on January 3 after just 15 games in charge (Sky Sports).
Despite his unsatisfactory tenure at St Andrews, the former England captain and Goodison Park hero is determined to return to the dugout and eventually manage Everton.
When Gary Lineker stated that Everton and United should be the aim, Rooney answered in real time during BBC Sport’s coverage of United’s FA Cup matchup with Nottingham Forest.
“That’s the goal, that’s where I want to end up,” he stated, according to statements cited by the Metro (February 28).
“Obviously, these huge jobs are Everton or United. You wish to give them a go. It’s a process, and I have to follow the stages to get back on track and back into management before I can move into one of the large jobs in the next ten years.

Rooney led Derby in very tough financial times at Pride Park, where he performed a fairly decent job, but his tenure at DC was hardly revolutionary.
Then, with Manchester United’s all-time top goalscorer in charge, he moved to Birmingham to take over for a beloved player in John Eustace at a time when the squad was in the playoffs but fell down the Championship table.
The problem is that, in terms of his managing career, he is still somewhat young. Will he take over as manager of Goodison Park any time soon? To be honest, that is not likely.
But in the long run? It’s true that you should never say never. Maybe Rooney may rejoin the team in the future if he can resume managing, learn from his mistakes in the past, and demonstrate that he has what it takes to be successful in the dugout.
