Gary Neville predicts Nottingham Forest points deduction after Everton FFP ‘precedent’

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has spoken about Nottingham Forest’s alleged financial breach and possible Premier League points deduction

Gary Neville has weighed in on whether Nottingham Forest should lose any more points.

Forest was accused of breaking the profitability and sustainability standards (PSR) by the Premier League in January. It is anticipated that Forest will meet with an independent commission in the first two weeks of March.

Everton appealed the original punishment given in November, and on Monday, their points reduction was lowered from ten to six points. The Toffees were accused of a solitary PSR violation, and Neville thinks that Everton’s predicament has established the benchmark for the possible penalty Forest might face.

Neville stated on the Sky Bet-sponsored Stick to Football podcast that “the Premier League will not do them for more than six points because there is a precedent.” Teams will know what to expect if they are penalised six points for violating certain regulations, according to the rules.

“The first thing that must happen is that they must make it in-season; that is, they must make it so that your losses must be limited to one season within the three-year, £105 million period. Many of these problems will be resolved because you won’t be measuring it over the course of three years.

Neville’s request that the regulations be changed to account for losses incurred in a single season comes after Everton was accused of a new infraction in January, which the team has challenged because it pertains to a portion of the same fiscal year.

Forest has various budgetary limitations because they were just promoted. Financial Fair Play regulations for second-tier teams limit the Reds’ losses over the last three seasons to £61 million; this includes £13 million for the two Championship seasons and an additional £35 million from the previous campaign.
