FIFA shares where Celtic really ranks against the top clubs in European football.
We temporarily divert our attention from domestic matters as we all allow the Celtic performance from last night to linger in our memories.
For the past ten or so years, Celtic’s performances and outcomes in Europe have fallen short of what we as supporters have come to anticipate.
In actuality, Neil Lennon’s 2019 escape from the Europa League group stage was the highlight of our recent European adventure.
Lennon managed Group E at the time, facing off against clubs like Lazio Rennes and CRF Cluj. With two games remaining, the Quadruple Treble-winning manager guided Celtic to the round of 32 as we defeated Lazio 2-1 to record our first-ever victory in Italy.
It’s been kind of a soggy squib ever since. And if recent Champions League performances have been better, the harsh reality is that Celtic has placed last in their group in both of its previous two seasons’ tries.
In light of that, what position do we now hold in Europe? As one of the largest clubs on the continent, we consider ourselves to be. Is it still the situation?
FIFA rank Celtic 37th in 2025 Club World Cup qualification
FIFA divided up the qualifying into the Confederations that each have clubs from which they hope to compete in their tournament.
Therefore, Celtic is a member of UEFA. A club’s performance in the Champions League between 2021 and 2024 determines its qualification for the 2025 competition. [Association Football]
The following are the steps involved in obtaining qualification points:
a. Gaining two points
b. A draw is worth one point.
c. Four points are needed to advance to the group stage.
d. To advance to the round of 16, you need five points.
e. One point is awarded for advancing to each subsequent competition stage.
With eight points and just one victory during this time, Celtic is presently ranked 37th. They have also drawn three and lost eight games.
Regretfully, but the Hoops are still on par with teams like Marseille and Zenit St Petersburg and surpassing teams like Feyenoord, Newcastle, Bayer Leverkusen, and Union Berlin under Josip Juranovic.
Remain calm, though. Remember Rangers, who are placed 62nd, second poorest team in the league, after FC Midtjylland, Malmo, and Victoria Plzen all exceed the Ibrox club.
