Celtic and Rangers allocations could be reduced by Hibs if flare use persists
Celtic and Rangers allocations could be reduced by Hibs if flare use persists
According to chief executive Ben Kensell, if the flaring trend continues, Hibernian may lower the
number of tickets available for Rangers and Celtics supporters.
Before the matter is taken to the police, Kensell said talks between the Old Firm teams would take place.
He thinks other teams are thinking about cutting back on their away allocations, not only Hibs.
January saw visiting Rangers fans set off fireworks in the away end at Easter Road, while earlier this month, Celtic supporters did the same.
“As Hearts have, as other clubs have, it’s our prerogative to reduce allocations if we wish – up to this
point we haven’t,” he stated.
Possession of fireworks or other pyrotechnics at certain locations or events, such football games,
concerts, or festivals, in Scotland without a valid reason has been illegal since last June.
Within six months of the new laws being introduced, eleven persons were detained for using or
possessing pyrotechnics at football games.
Earlier this season, flares enveloped Dens Park in smoke during a Scottish Premiership match between
Dundee and Rangers. This triggered a fire alarm and forced the players off the field for eighteen
minutes.
The April Scottish Cup semi-final between Celtic and Rangers at Hampden Park was postponed due to
flares being set off by spectators inside the stadium.
