The Boston Bruins’ pending unrestricted free agent, Jake DeBrusk, expressed caution about the approaching NHL trade deadline on Wednesday by stating there had been no discussions about a contract extension.
DeBrusk told reporters, “It’s in the back of everybody’s mind obviously because nobody is really safe.”It’s one of those occasions when everything is always hectic, demanding, and difficult for fans alike. It’s just the way things work. To be honest, I’ve experienced a few quite interesting ones.
Although there have been speculations about DeBrusk during his time in Boston, the forward, 27, is currently in his seventh season with the Bruins.
After posting a career-high 27 goals and 50 points in 64 games the previous year, he signed for an expired cap charge of $4 million. This season, he has 13 goals and 27 points in 58 games.
DeBrusk stated that he has been concerned about the prospect of a transfer even though he is not entitled to any trade protection under his contract.
“Yes, without a doubt,” DeBrusk replied. In that sense, I believe I’ve been around long enough to understand how the league operates. Of course, other things happen; players get hurt all across the league and other things happen that are kind of uncontrollable.
“So, it’ll be interesting to see what teams are aggressive, what teams aren’t.”
The Bruins, who had a great start to the season, have lost three of their last five games to Florida Panthers, and are now tied for first place in the Atlantic Division.
The Athletic this week (opens in a new tab) was informed by Bruins president Cam Neely that the team had a “big list” of needs before the March 8 deadline, pointing to both defence and offence.
