Lennon Miller told to demand Rangers loan exit back to Motherwell after summer transfer.
Peter Martin has warned Lennon Miller to avoid a move to Rangers or Celtic in the summer, after speculation about the midfielder surfaced.
On February 27, a PLZ Soccer journalist wrote that Motherwell is a “great club” for the adolescent to develop into “our next superstar” and that he
should push to be loaned straight back to Fir Park if an Ibrox or Parkhead deal is done at the conclusion of the season.
The 17-year-old’s assist for Blair Spittal against the Hoops on Sunday (25 February) sparked debate between Charlie Mulgrew and James
McFadden on Sky Sports. However, Martin believes he should stay and play rather than sit on the bench during the Old Firm.
Martin wrote: “Lennon Miller, stay where you are and improve your skills, game knowledge, and experience playing regular top-flight football.
“If Celtic or Rangers come calling in the summer, have your agent negotiate a loan back to Motherwell for the entire next season…”
“You are the best player in the team at 17, what will you be like at 18 heading to 19 years of age with seventy games under your belt?”
He admitted: “Yes, it’s a risk, but I’d hate to see you warming the bench in one half of Glasgow, blue or green, or anywhere else for that matter.”
“I can hear many footballers and agents shouting, ‘Get the move now!'” You are better off earning five or ten thousand a week at a big club than a few hundred at Motherwell.”
Lennon Miller told to turn down Rangers and Celtic transfer possibilities.
As much as the teenager appears to be a player that Philippe Clement would like to have, it may be too early for him to hope to start consistently at Ibrox.
If the Belgian intends to add the Scot to his midfield, Martin’s suggestion to send him back to Fir Park on loan for a year may be the most practical option in the short term.
In such circumstances, the threat of a move to the other side of Glasgow is ever-present, but with English sides increasingly turning to British-based prospects since Brexit, the chances of any Scottish side landing him may fade if he impresses too much too soon, and he could follow the likes of Billy Gilmour to the Premier League at a young age.
Rangers are bringing in young players to complement an experienced core, with Mohamed Diomande (22), Oscar Cortes (20), and Ridvan Yilmaz (22) all playing important roles.
If Ryan Jack’s contract is not extended and John Lundstram cannot reach an agreement, it is not surprising that the Light Blues may pursue Miller.
