‘Unbelievable’ – Ferguson disagrees with what Clement said at Rangers: ‘Incredible’

Derek Ferguson feels he has been a “Godsend” for the team and takes issue with something Rangers manager Philippe Clement said about him in October.

After being appointed at Ibrox on October 15, the Belgian told the media two days later, “I’m not a magician,” expressing his ambition for a clean sweep of trophies (Daily Record, February 17).

Rangers trailed Celtic by seven points at the time in the Scottish Premiership, but since then, they’ve gained a two-point lead thanks to their one loss, which came against the Bhoys, under manager Clement.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, former Rangers player Ferguson called Clement a “Godsend” and even expressed the belief that his initial assessment of Clement was incorrect.

He remarked, “The job he’s done has been quite incredible and miraculous, and that’s because of the mess he found himself going into it.”

“And it was a complete shambles, let’s not mince words, it was appalling. It was evident that players were perhaps not mentally or physically sharp enough, and at times I believe they were confused about tactics.

Since taking over, Clement has made everything simpler and given the players a clear message regarding tactics, but when you look at them as athletes, they appear more fit and knowledgeable.

“I fail to see why that ought to be the case. We were in a little bit of a mess when the last manager departed, so it’s amazing that he came in and managed to get us to where we are now.

“You know, three or four months ago. To be really honest with you—I know this is horrible to admit—I had given up hope and felt it was over.

“Thank God for Philippe Clement; he has been amazing. He claims he is not a magician, but based on his work, I believe he is somewhat of one. I adore him because of his integrity and regard for everyone. He has truly been a blessing in our lives.

Under Philippe Clement, can Rangers win the Scottish Premiership?

If most people—including many Rangers supporters, if they’re being honest—had posed this question four months ago, when Clement took over, they would have laughed.

Clement himself, for one thing, wasn’t laughing. His expression was that of a man full of steel, believing he could make things better.

And what a difference he has made.Given where they were when he signed, it is very amazing that the Rangers currently have the momentum and the lead in the title fight.

Even though they have a long way to go before they can defeat Celtic to win the trophy, it’s still quite amazing that they decided to make it a race.
