Following Tony Mowbray’s latest admission, Birmingham Live’s most current Birmingham City news contains an update on Ian Poveda’s future.
When Ian Poveda’s contract with Leeds United expires in the summer, Birmingham City may renew their pursuit of him.
Blues wanted to recruit Poveda during the January transfer window, but Tony Mowbray was unable to clear any space in his squad to make way for the winger. On deadline day, Sheffield Wednesday was able to acquire Poveda from Leeds on loan, and in his first game as an Owl, he significantly contributed to the team’s 2-0 victory over Blues.
After the game, Mowbray acknowledged that the Blues had been very close to signing the Colombian international in January.”I would have to say, Poveda is a good player,” he remarked. In the recently closed window, we were quite close to signing Poveda. He is a really gifted young guy that I had at Blackburn Rovers.
Poveda, who was born in London, has contributed to Wednesday’s three victories in their previous four games, increasing their chances of staying in League One. If Wednesday maintains their Championship position, manager Danny Rohl is anticipated to try to sign Poveda on a long-term basis.
However, rival Championship clubs will be on high alert as a result of his spectacular turns for the Hillsborough team. Poveda’s contract with Leeds expires in the summer, and as he is now 24 years old, he can depart on a free transfer.
Koji Miyoshi is already a left-footed right winger for the Blues, but Mowbray is obviously a big Poveda fan. In ten Blackburn games under Mowbray, Poveda had one goal and two assists in an injury-plagued 2021–2022 season.
