Raiders News: GM Tom Telesco Shuts Down Davante Adams Trade Rumors

This summer, Tom Telesco, the general manager of the Las Vegas Raiders, must make some important choices. What personnel changes the Raiders can make to improve on a squad that finished 8-9 despite a late-season push is now the question after the organisation decided to retain Antonio Pierce as head coach. With the exception of Josh Jacobs, a free agent, Davante Adams, and Maxx Crosby, the team lacks superstar quality.

And that promptly sparked speculation regarding Adams’ availability. Given that the New York Jets would undoubtedly be interested in reuniting Adams with Aaron Rodgers, the idea of dealing Adams is not new. Additionally, it might make sense to deal with one of the Raiders’ most valued players while his contract is still high if they’re looking to retool.

At a recent news conference, Telesco addressed the rumours and categorically denied that Adams was up for grabs or will be traded at any time this offseason, according to Paul Gutierrez of ESPN:

At the combine on Tuesday, Tom Telesco, the new general manager of the Las Vegas Raiders, declared, “He’s a Raider.”

This is a player’s league, after all, and sometimes a player may desire to find a new home even if an organisation doesn’t want to part ways with him. Fortunately for the Raiders, Adams doesn’t seem to be interested in leaving anytime soon. He’s actually looking forward to getting back together with Luke Getsy, the new offensive coordinator. During Adams’ first season with the Green Bay Packers, the two collaborated.

“He’s an open-minded coach who will be receptive to suggestions from seasoned players who understand the ins and outs of this game,” stated Adams, who finished the 2018 season with 103 receptions but his lowest receiving yards per catch average (11.1) since 2015 and his fewest touchdown catches (8) since his 12-game season in 2019.

Adams described Getsy as having “open-mindedness and, like I said, that innovation to the offence and a good run-pass balance.” And I’m accustomed to that West Coast vibe. Working on a new system that is also somewhat more recognisable will be enjoyable.

Although a football offseason might bring forth unexpected changes, it appears like Adams and the Raiders are in agreement that he will remain in Las Vegas for the time being.

Raiders intend to sign Jacobs again

The Raiders now have the decision-makers on board to find out how to get the roster to a position where it can compete with the league’s best, in Pierce and Telesco. Per all reports, Pierce wants his squad to play physical, quick, and aggressively. The Raiders will undoubtedly look to the 2024 NFL Draft and free agency to find players that meet that description.

Nevertheless, Las Vegas must also make choices regarding their own unrestricted free agents, and it is believed that they intend to re-sign elite running back Josh Jacobs.
