‘Pretty farcical’… David Ornstein reacts to what could happen to Everton after the end of the season

Everton have been awarded four points back by the Premier League – and attention will now turn to the second charge that has honed into view.

Nottingham Forest and the Toffees are accused of breaking the Profit and Sustainability Rules once more.

The Premier League decision is anticipated in April, and an appeals procedure is probably going to come after.

Sadly, the Premier League’s AGM, which happens five days after the current season ends, will have to approve the appeals procedure.

As a result, there’s a real chance that clubs’ standings will change once the current season ends.

David Ornstein on Everton second appeal

It would be silly to seek anywhere else for the most important stories than David Ornstein of The Athletic.

The former journalist for BBC Sport always has his finger on the pulse of the most recent developments.

Ornstein described in detail how a “farcical” situation can arise at the end of the season in an interview with The Athletic Football Podcast.

The main point is that it’s far from finished. We have only reached a portion of the procedure. which highlights the mess we’re in, he continued.

“The first charge for Nottingham Forest and the second charge for Everton must be resolved by mid-April, but it’s possible that we won’t know for sure until May 24.

which occurs five days following the conclusion of the season, just in time for the AGM, where spots are allotted for the next year.

Thus, teams like Everton and Burnley might play on the championship game without knowing if they’ll be in the Premier League the following year. That seems a little absurd.

Even though Everton cut back on their spending, Ornstein thinks it’s doubtful they’ll escape penalties again.

He went on, “The commission describes how Everton was occasionally warned about their excessive spending, but they disregarded these and kept spending.”

“Spending significantly less has been the most recent trend. Even though they’ve done a fantastic job organising their home, they might not be able to get away the second time.

Some other clubs will think this is too lax, whether we like it or not. Rival supporters have said in remarks that six points is not a deal breaker. A severe penalty is necessary to make sure they maintain order in their home.

Premier League mess set to unfold

There would be intense scrutiny in the football world if the Premier League decides league places after the season.

For their benefit, it is hoped that by the end of May, the relegation struggle will be decided, with three teams eliminated from the bottom spot.

But since Forest and Everton are both near the bottom of the table, there’s a good likelihood that there won’t be much more than a few points separating them from the finish line.

This season’s finale may be the most turbulent and contentious one we’ve ever seen.
