Philippe Clement argues Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland “deserves” an England call-up, but only if Gareth Southgate agrees!

The Rangers manager was speaking amid speculations that the 30-year-old is ready for a Three Lions recall following a more than five year absence.

Jack Butland was previously regarded as one of England’s best young talents, earning nine caps earlier in his career.

However, spells on the bench of Crystal Palace and Manchester United in the English Premier League have limited the goalie in recent seasons.

Philippe Clement believes Jack Butland, who joined Rangers in the summer, is making a name for himself in England.

Before the match against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, the Ibrox manager was queried about those gathering Butland reports.

Clement clearly believes Butland has England quality, claiming that the Rangers goalkeeper is a leader and key member of the Ibrox dressing room.

But once again, the Rangers manager blamed the decision on England manager Gareth Southgate.

“I would love for him to be there,” Clement remarked. “Because he deserved it.” He is prepared in that way.

“If he merits enough, that is (Gareth) Southgate’s judgment, of course. Yes, he has been really beneficial to the squad, despite the fact that he has had fewer responsibilities in recent weeks.

“He maintains the same concentration and sincerity. He is vital in the locker room and during training, and he will be even more important in the coming weeks and months.

“Because we have a lot of games to go and a lot of important games and you need people with personality.”

Philippe Clement has already spoken highly of England prospect Jack Butland.

The Rangers boss considers the goalkeeper to be among the greatest he has worked with, alongside Simon Mignolet.

Philippe Clement has given great appreciation to Jack Butland, and England manager Gareth Southgate has also publicly hailed his form.

All signs lead to a return to the national team lineup ahead of Euro 2024, with friendlies against Brazil and Belgium scheduled for March.

If Jack Butland is recalled by England, he will become the first player since Paul Gascoigne in 1996 to be called up to the Three Lions squad.
