Official nightmare confirmed for West Ham in Premier League announcements ahead of Everton.
West Ham hopes to build on its 2024 season opening victory against Everton, but the Premier League might have thrown a wrench in the works.
For West Ham and Everton, the past several months haven’t been very exciting.
However, both David Moyes‘ current team and his former club have experienced this week.
West Ham defeated Brentford 4–2 at the London Stadium on Monday night, earning their first victory of 2024 at the ninth attempt.
In the meantime, Everton has surged to a lofty position of 15th in the Premier League standings.
Momentum spanner in the works for West Ham
That comes following an unusual five-point weekend as a result of a draw at Brighton and the Premier League waiving four of the 10-point penalties the Toffees were given.
Prior to West Ham’s visit to Goodison Park, Sean Dyche’s team sits five points clear of the drop zone.
Now, the Hammers will try to gather some steam.
But there’s an official nightmare for West Ham in Premier League announcements ahead of Everton.
Premier League announcements give Everton a boost
The Premier League’s announcement that they have returned four points to Everton will not only have Dyche’s team and the supporters cheering.
However, it has also been confirmed that Craig Pawson would officiate the match.
Even though West Ham’s players weren’t any better, Pawson’s handling of the team’s recent 6-0 loss to Arsenal enraged supporters.
The Hammers’ supporters believed that Pawson made no decisions for them during the match, while Arsenal gained momentum and broke out.
It was seen by many West Ham supporters as one of the most biased refereeing performances in a long time.
Ironically Hammers supporters had welcomed the fact Pawson was put in charge of that Arsenal clash.
Hammers fans were furious with Pawson
since he was on VAR duty when West Ham’s first goal stood in the 2-0 victory over Arsenal in the rematch at the end of December.
Given how Dyche’s Everton team plays, Goodison Park will require a capable referee.
But a quid for Moyes’s opinions upon Pawson’s return.
It’s obvious what West Ham supporters will think of the appointment.
For the match on Saturday, Pawson’s assistants will be Marc Perry and Steve Meredith.
Gary Beswick will support Tony Harrington when he is on VAR duty.
