Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe hopes Tuesday’s FA Cup fifth-round win at Blackburn Rovers can be a ‘sliding doors’ moment in the season.
Eddie Howe is doing “to the best of his ability” at Newcastle United following a lacklustre FA Cup performance against Blackburn Rovers.
The Magpies were held to a 1-1 stalemate after extra time, but they advanced to the FA Cup quarterfinals with a penalty shootout victory at Ewood Park. Howe’s team has suffered in recent months due to a string of subpar games and a large amount of goals given up.
However, the team is currently only 90 minutes away from winning the championship for the second straight season. On Wednesday night, the FA Cup quarterfinal draw will take place.
Given that, Newcastle’s shootout victory might end up being a “sliding doors” moment in the season, but Howe remained realistic following a difficult stretch of play.
He said, “I can’t overthink things.” “I’m giving my all to the work, and I will continue to do so for the duration of my time here.
“As for the season, I don’t know what the future holds but what it does is keep us in a competition we’re desperate to do well in with the carrot of Wembley.”
The question of whether Howe’s and his players’ personal futures at the club are affected by not knowing “what the future holds” was then posed to him.
“No, I was talking about the FA Cup, a sliding doors moment. I don’t know what that win will lead to but hopefully it’s further progression and unbelievable experience at the end of it,” the Magpies boss quickly put a stop to the conversation.
