Newcastle target ‘world class’ coach as Eddie Howe’s replacement

Newcastle United are eyeing a move to appoint Julian Nagelsmann as their new manager in the summer – the German has also been linked with the Liverpool job.

Eddie Howe took over the St. James’ Park team in November 2021 and has since done an outstanding job. He led them to the Champions League after saving them from relegation. But given the lacklustre results of late, there are already rumours that Nagelsmann is being considered as a possible successor.

Newcastle United want to appoint Julian Nagelsmann as Eddie Howe’s replacement

The season for Newcastle United has been marred by numerous injuries. As a result, the Magpies have faced difficulties.

Eddie Howe’s team is currently 15 points behind Aston Villa in fourth place in the Premier League standings, having finished last in their Champions League group.

In the last few months of the season, the Magpies’ manager will be hoping to turn things around, but if German journalist Christian Falk is to be believed, PIF is already considering his replacement.

A few minutes ago, the BILD reporter on X disclosed that Newcastle is considering Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann as a possible Howe replacement in the summer.

The “phenomenal” 36-year-old has not yet decided, though, whether to return to club football or continue managing Germany after the summer’s Euros.

“Exclusive: @NUFC is interested in Julian Nagelsmann (36) for summer,” tweeted Falk.

“The German national team coach is with the same agency as Newcastle’s Fabian Schär; he has not yet decided whether to sign a new contract or return to a club.”

Liverpool have been linked with Nagelsmann too

With Jurgen Klopp announcing last month that he would be leaving his position at the conclusion of this season, Liverpool are currently looking for a new manager.

Xabi Alonso and the Reds, who won the Carabao Cup the previous weekend, have been strongly linked. Roberto De Zerbi has also been brought up.

Julian Nagelsmann is the second name reportedly on Liverpool’s shortlist, according to the Telegraph. Being a huge admirer of his countryman, Klopp has called him a “big coaching talent.”

It appears that Borussia Dortmund is also interested in him, so he will have no shortage of offers this summer.
