Philippe Clement makes “one time” reminder as Rangers boss lays Kilmarnock marker.
Rangers face Kilmarnock in what may be a critical moment in the title race.
Derek McInnes’ team-building skills will be tested at Rugby Park, where new manager Philippe Clement will be in attendance.
The manager is focused on his Rangers squad’s potential, but also recognizes the threat from Kilmarnock.
Rangers face a big challenge with their Kilmarnock trip.
It is not simply the pitch.
Both teams play on the same surface, and the Rangers have their own at Auchenhowie.
With the exception of Lawrence Shankland, Kilmarnock has a strong squad that rivals Rangers and Celtic in terms of quality.
Greg Stewart, Matt Kennedy, Danny Armstrong, Kevin Van Veen, and Gary Mackay-Steven are all players capable of causing difficulties if given enough time and space.
A excellent combination of expertise and pace.
Clement knows what to expect, and at his pre-match press conference, he was full of respect for the side that is currently fourth in the Scottish Premiership:
“The boys are focused, and they understand that they must adjust to changing situations. They appreciate the opponent and how they do things.
“If I’m not mistaken, in six Old Firm games this season, they’ve won three, drawn one, and lost two.
“That one against us at Ibrox sticks with me.
“We are going to go there full focus but it is one of those dangerous moments.”
Clement is correct; their record versus Old Firm opponents must be among the best in contemporary history.
At Rugby Park, they are exceptionally difficult to breach.
Rangers, on the other hand, have proven to be no pushovers with ten consecutive wins in 2024, and Clement’s comment about the last time the two teams met was spot on.
This is not the same Rangers.
Clement must guarantee that Rangers respect Kilmarnock while making them worry about us, not the other way around.
