Former Celtics forward gets buyout, allowed to sign with Boston.
Another former Celtics forward is a free agent after agreeing to a buyout. Mike Muscala is now eligible to suit up in the playoffs for his next team after getting bought out by the Pistons, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Muscala might attract some interest from several playoff teams, according Wojnarowski. The 32-year-old is actually eligible to sign with the Celtics despite being moved from the organization last offseason. Since the Wizards sent him to the Pistons before of the deadline, that allows the C’s to sign him if they so desire.
Muscala is averaging 3.8 points and 2.8 rebounds through 37 games with the Pistons and Wizards this season. While the suitors might not necessarily be lining up to take up the big man, he might give some outside shooting and an experienced presence in the locker room.
Now, it’s no certainty Muscala signs with the Celtics. Boston does have an extra roster spot following the trade deadline, so there is some space. But it’s unclear at this time what the C’s plan to do with that roster position since they might wait till near the conclusion of the season to fill it.
Muscala could potentially be searching for a larger opportunity on a playoff club as minutes will be hard to come by in Boston. But he’s at least eligible for a Celtics return if both sides are interested in that. Regardless, it’ll be interesting to watch where Muscala lines up.
