Everton and Nottingham Forest may need to take remedial action to avoid yet another profit and sustainability breach if they stay up this season, according to The Times.
On February 28, the newspaper announced on its website that both teams would face additional charges for breaking the regulations this season and might have to sell players in order to get out of trouble.
It was also reported that a Premier League club chairman acknowledged that, with the summer transfer window predicted to be quiet, teams are now afraid to take any chances.
Could Everton receive another points deduction?
Naturally, the possibility of yet another point deduction would increase with another charge, and other Premier League teams would be rushing to avoid the same problems the Toffees have encountered this season.
This information was released soon after Everton’s successful appeal against their original ten-point deduction, which resulted in a six-point penalty. However, the team and Forest are already facing more charges.
There have been many rumours circulating about the potential consequence of the second charge, one of which suggested that the second offence might result in an even heavier punishment.
Should the team receive a third charge, it can have disastrous consequences, especially if the penalties align with the ones previously imposed at Goodison Park.
It’s unknown if Everton will breach the restriction once more, and there are ways to get around it given that players like Jarrad Branthwaite have been connected to high-profile departures, but this will only add to the unpredictability on Merseyside.
