Derrick White gushes over former Celtics teammate.

BOSTON — The Celtics still have an open roster space coming into the final stretch of the season, so there’s been some interest on how they’ll use it. But as of now, don’t expect a reunion with former C’s forward Blake Griffin, who spent time with the team last season.

Derrick White and Payton Pritchard recently stated on the “Pardon My Take” podcast that several Celtics teammates asked Griffin to return to Boston. But at this moment, Griffin seems like he’s enjoying time away from basketball as he spends time with his family. But Griffin obviously made a mark on his C’s teammates in just one season with them.

“Obviously, Blake’s probably one of the best teammates all of us has ever had,” Griffin said. “So anytime you have him around, it’s great. But I feel like it’s his decision and we accept that, but we all just love having him around.”

Griffin himself clearly liked playing with the Celtics last year even though they fell short of their ultimate aim of winning a championship. C’s supporters also embraced Griffin, often yelling for him to check into the end of games. While Griffin wasn’t the high-flying athletic beast from early in his career last year, he was a fine backup big man for the team as he participated in 41 games.

But at this point, it’s evident Griffin has prioritized his family. That’s no surprise given he’s spent 13 years in the NBA and was named an All-Star six times in his career. But if the itch is still there and Griffin wants to return, he at the very least has the support from his teammates to be back in the locker room.
