Dallas Cowboys Projected To Select Former FSU Football Star In First Round

The former Seminole is trying to improve his stock at the NFL Combine.

The NFL Combine is underway in Indianapolis, as hopefuls try to use the event to raise their draft stock. The upcoming week has the potential to aid or harm players who are taking part in athletic testing, on-field drills, and interviews. It’s also an opportunity for the top performers to distinguish themselves from the pack.

Former Florida State wide receiver Keon Coleman is one of the best prospects at his position. Coleman’s choice to run the 40-yard dash at the combine gives him the opportunity to confirm himself as a first-round draft pick. Currently, he is seen as a late-first to early-second round pick among a talented class of wide receivers.

There are several clubs in the league who might benefit from a play-making wide receiver capable of making the most difficult challenged catches. According to Chris Vannini of The Athletic, Coleman is expected to be selected as the 24th overall pick by the Dallas Cowboys.

“The Cowboys have options here, but the offense has been without a WR2 alongside CeeDee Lamb since the Amari Cooper deal. The 6-4 Coleman is a muscular specimen who scored 11 touchdowns on 50 receptions for FSU last season. Coleman does not play 50-50 ball, especially when lined up against No. 2 cornerbacks. Give Dak Prescott an additional exceptional receiving weapon. — Vincenti”

Coleman is projected to be the fourth wide receiver in the draft, after only Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr., LSU’s Malik Nabers, and Washington’s Rome Odunze. There are seven wide receivers anticipated to be selected in the first round of the draft, demonstrating the depth of the position this year.

If the Dallas Cowboys are going to continue to rely on Dak Prescott, they will need to expand their offensive arsenal. Coleman would be an immediate danger alongside CeeDee Lamb, who is coming off the best season of his professional career.

Coleman caught 50 catches for 658 yards and 11 touchdowns while returning 25 punts for 300 yards in his one season at Florida State. He was the only player in program history to be named only-Team All-ACC at three positions (wide receiver, all-purpose player, and specialist). Coleman scored six touchdowns in his first four games before missing the majority of the second half of the season due to injury.

Coleman played two seasons at Michigan State before joining the Seminoles, where he caught 65 passes for 848 yards and eight touchdowns. He signed with the Spartans as a three-star prospect for the 2021 class.

The NFL draft is set to commence on Thursday, April 25, 2024.
