Celtic 7-1 Dundee: Player ratings and match report as Hoops hammer sorry Dee

The Dark Blues suffered their worst loss of the year at Celtic Park, where the champions were running wild.

At a sodden Parkhead, Celtic’s goals came in droves as they threw poor Dundee aside.

With six goals scored before the half, the Dark Blues suffered their worst loss of the year.

The Dee squad transport broke down not far from Celtic Park before the game.

After a wild first 45 minutes, they could have parked that bus somewhere else.

In the first half, Callum McGregor, Greg Taylor, Daizen Maeda, Matt O’Riley, Adam Idah, and Cameron Carter-Vickers all scored goals.

On a night Dundee would never forget, Daniel Kelly made it 7-0 with more goals to come in the second half.

Fin Robertson could possibly have been sent off, but not before Michael Mellon gave the visitors a late lead.

first segment

Following a lacklustre performance against Hibs the previous game, Tony Docherty made the switch to a back three.

Dundee simply couldn’t keep up with the home team’s speed, movement, and quality even with an extra man at the back.

It was one-way traffic when Joe Hart was forced to make an early save by Jordan McGhee.

Carter-Vickers headed in a straightforward free-kick from the right flank, looming over Amadou Bakayoko, the marker, near the far post.

After seven minutes, Idah beat Joe Shaughnessy and Antonio Portales to a cross from Alistair Johnston, and eleven minutes later, the score was 2-0.

In quick succession, Taylor scored a third goal four minutes later when he had time to find an unmarked O’Riley in the heart of the goal.

It was 4-0 at the half-hour mark. Because of his back struggles, Shaughnessy was unable to get close enough to Maeda inside the space.

With too much time on his hands, the Japanese striker retreated to his left and curled a weak shot past Carson.

After 36 minutes, Taylor scored goal number five after Lamie glanced on a cross from the right.

With 45 minutes to go, Curtis Main believed he had one back, but a thorough VAR check resulted in his strike being flagged out for offside. That was the Dee’s night in a nutshell.

Then, just when they seemed they might be close to halftime, McGregor slipped the ball home for six goals in the first half, causing them even more suffering.

Second segment

Changes from Dundee at half-time were inevitable. After a gruelling first half, captain Shaughnessy was replaced by Aaron Donnelly.

In place of Malachi Boateng and the injured Jordan McGhee, Josh Mulligan and Mo Sylla were also active.

But the objectives were not yet complete.

After taking over for Celtic captain McGregor at halftime, young Daniel Kelly scored his first goal for the Hoops by curling into the top corner on minute 63.

After a late tackle on Johnston, Robertson received his first-ever red card, making an already awful evening much worse. Dundee were then reduced to 10 men for the final 13 minutes of play.

On the 83rd minute, however, they pulled one back when Donnelly found Michael Mellon at the far post, and the Burnley loanee crashed into the goal.

Dundee is still among the top six teams in the Premiership league despite their humiliation.
