Alan Shearer is seriously impressed by Everton’s young central defender Jarrad Branthwaite.
This comes amid reported interest from Chelsea.
The 21-year-old Jarrad Branthwaite is having a great season so far at Everton.
He’s not exactly performing like a rookie in the Premier League going through his first full season. Rather, the center-back who loves to play the ball is flourishing in one of the finest defences in the division.
Shearer’s most recent Premier League Team of the Week featured Branthwaite of Everton. This came following the center-half’s incredible late equaliser in Brighton’s 1-1 draw the previous Saturday.
He believes the standout player for the Toffees will soon get his first call-up to the senior England team. Would that arrive in time for this summer’s Euro 2024?
“Won a fantastic goal and played excellent defence, allowing Everton to concede only a late goal.” An England call-up can’t be long off with performances like these, Shearer stated, as cited by the Premier League’s official website.
Chelsea interested in Jarrad Branthwaite
One of the teams inquiring about buying Branthwaite from Everton this summer is Chelsea, according to a story from The Daily Mail earlier this month. In addition, Tottenham, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Real Madrid are all vying for his attention.
As for Chelsea, 90min has reported that Branthwaite has been explored internally as a potential transfer target.
He is without a doubt one of Europe’s most interesting young defenders at the moment. We also concur that a main England call-up is unavoidable.
However, Chelsea already has a number of excellent centre halves on their roster, particularly once Wesley Fofana returns to full fitness. In contrast to the No 9 position, a new central defender doesn’t seem like an urgent priority.
