£1.2m ace living his dream after Rangers exit as he savours ‘beautiful’ debut.
Rangers midfielder Jose Cifuentes is looking to create’something really lovely’ with Cruzeiro after leaving the Scottish Premiership leaders for a loan spell in Brazil.
Jose Cifuentes, an Ecuadorian international, made his debut for Cruzeiro this weekend after a delay due to red tape.
The former LAFC star, who joined Rangers for £1.2 million last summer but struggled to make an impact on this side of the Atlantic, played the final 30 minutes of Saturday’s 2-0 triumph against Pouso Alegre.
After a difficult period in Scotland, Cifuentes seemed eager to make up for lost time in Brazil.
Jose Cifuentes eventually makes his Cruzeiro debut.
“It’s exciting to arrive and wear the Cruzeiro shirt,” the 24-year-old told Itatiaia. “Something extremely gorgeous.
“Every player dreams of something like this. The nicest part is that I made my debut with a triumph. My objective in coming was to join the numerous excellent players at the club. “I’m here to help and learn from them.”
Cruzeiro, who placed 14th in the Brazilian top flight last term, has recruited Cifuentes to their team, which includes former Real Madrid and Marseille sensation Lucas Silva and Porto loanee Gabriel Veron.
Rangers may look to sell midfielder this summer.
“We had to win,” Cifuentes says following the Pouso Alegre victory.”Working and the team united as it is, we will be successful.”
Cifuentes appeared in only nine Scottish Premiership matches with the Gers. After Mohamed Diomande arrived from Nordsjaelland in January, Philippe Clement granted him permission to go.
Meanwhile, the latter has outperformed the former in terms of impact. Diomande scored his second Rangers goal with a blistering long-range shot in Saturday’s five-star, five-goal performance at home against Hearts.
