Relegation battle: Nottingham Forest and Everton waits for FFP charges outcome

Everton and Nottingham Forest are currently waiting the outcome of their recent cases.

Following violations of the division’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), Nottingham Forest and Everton are among the Premier League’s bottom three teams that remain in suspense as they await word on their future.

The results of the two teams’ impending hearings might significantly alter the storyline as they battle relegation for the second straight season. A point deduction for each team would completely collapse the battle for survival, providing a sizable lifeline to Burnley, Luton Town, and Sheffield United. Updates on Everton and Forest’s charges are provided here.

Forest hire leading sports lawyer

The financial fair play hearing for Nottingham Forest is scheduled to begin on March 7 and 8. The club allegedly hired renowned sports attorney Nick de Marco KC, and they want to centre a significant portion of their case around the £47.5 million sale of Brendan Johnson in September, according to The Telegraph.

Blades' rivals Everton, Forest 'expect' to be hit with FFP sanctions

Because to a PSR violation in their 2022–2023 accounts, Forest was charged last month. The club is anticipated to contend that they delayed over the June 30th accounting deadline to maximise the amount of money received from the Johnson transfer. On the last day of the summer transfer window, he signed a contract with Tottenham Hotspur.

An Independent Commission will consider Forest’s case, and a decision is not anticipated until April.

Everton receive points boost but await second hearing

Everton was given a lesson in November when they were immediately docked ten points for violating the PSR during an evaluation period that concluded with the 2021–2022 season. This was the largest points deduction in the history of the Premier League.

Following an appeal that was heard in January, four points were added back to the Toffees’ total, bringing their deduction down from ten to six.

Even though Everton is five points above the drop zone and now sits in 15th place in the table, they still have work to do. The Merseyside team, which was charged in January for additional violations with Forest, will have to wait for a second hearing. Everton’s hearing is scheduled for April 8th, but a date has not yet been determined.
