Millions of pounds’ – Halliday questions Rangers live on air after Ibrox news on high-earner.

Rangers: Andy Halliday questions John Lund stram contract decision at Ibrox

With the shift in Ibrox recruitment, Andy Halliday has questioned Rangers’ choice to perhaps offer John Lundstram a new deal.

Halliday maintains that Lundstram lacks the long-term investments and sell-on value that the Ibrox club has prioritized since

Nils Koppen became the director of football.

The Motherwell midfielder acknowledged that Lundstram had received a new contract, but it was argued that the choice might not have been the best considering his age and expensive salary.

In a live speech on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on February 26, Halliday said, “It could alter the terms of the contract, but it doesn’t change whether he gets a contract or not.”

“I’m just guessing, but I would assume he would be among the club’s top five earnings. When Rangers and Philippe

Clement discuss the club’s sellable assets, I believe John Lundstram is likely in the group of players who will no longer be available for purchase.

“He is bridging into 32–33 and will be passed the years where they are going to sell him for millions of pounds if he signs a two–three year contract at Rangers. He has proven this year that he is more than worthy of a new contract, so I think that’s one thing that has to be said.

John Lundstram has earned a new contract at Rangers

Given his performances under Philippe Clement, Lundstram’s choice to stay at Ibrox has been greeted with high praise as rumors circulated that he was nearing a new contract. His present agreement is slated to expire at the end of the current campaign.

He has become one of the squad’s most vital players due to his availability and consistency throughout an injury-plagued season under Clement, therefore it was crucial that the team signed him to a new contract.

Although Halliday’s criticism of the choice is understandable in light of Koppen’s new emphasis on recruiting, there are times when making an exception for a player with Lundstram’s caliber of play.

After all, there will be advantages and disadvantages to assembling a younger, more attractive team at Ibrox, but retaining seasoned players like the midfielder can only help them in their quest to advance and grow as a team.
