In a Rangers B team match against Dundee
, Kemar Roofe advanced his injury recuperation and showed he still had the finishing touch.
The 31-year-old striker began the B Team match at the Rangers Training Center after making his first-team comeback in Saturday’s 5-0 thumping of Hearts.
Kemar Roofe scored as well while playing 45 minutes in the eventual 5-3 triumph, as Rangers cautiously manage the forward’s comeback from a string of injuries.
In the latter part of the season, a completely healthy and firing Kemar Roofe, one of the club’s highest-earners and most skilled strikers, could be a devastating addition to the Rangers forward line.
In the match against Dundee, rookie striker Zak Lovelace also started for the B Team, so Kemar wasn’t the only Rangers forward who was getting back into shape.
Rangers striker Philippe Clement overseeing his return
Prior to this, Rangers manager Phillipe Clement stated that the team would oversee Kemar Roofe’s injury comeback.
Roofe joined Rangers in the summer of 2020 after signing a reported £4.5 million contract with Belgian team Anderlecht. However, his career at Rangers has been marred by major injury problems every season.
With his contract expiring in the summer, Roofe’s advancement at Rangers has been disrupted during the last two campaigns in particular, casting doubt on a contract extension.
In October of last year, Rangers boss Clement stated:
He has been dealing with the same issues for a while, so we need to look at it very carefully.
“It is crucial to determine the cause of the issue rather than just solving it in order to get him ready for the next game and struggle afterwards. Instead of going game by game, it is vital to go to the root of the issue.
“I can’t comment on that (the duration of his absence). To ensure that Kemar returns healthy for the upcoming games, we must first conduct a thorough evaluation of how to get him back over the long term, as opposed to just temporarily, as it has been the past few months.
but having trouble in between, therefore we must get him in great shape.
Kemar Roofe and the B Team rebuild.
Kemar Roofe picked up another issue in December, following his brief return to the team and his goal in the team’s critical 3-2 Europa League victory over Real Betis.
Players returning from extended and continuous layoffs will typically experience recurring aches and pains as their bodies adjust to the demands of the professional game.
Rangers have handled Kemar Roofe’s return to action well, and he will continue to increase his level of fitness in the B Team matchup against Dundee.
Who knows, maybe this season Roofe can even lead the Rangers to glory.
