Everton: Michael Owen thrilled after news he heard emerging from Goodison Park

Everton: Michael Owen excited by news he heard emerging from Goodison Park.

Former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Michael Owen was impressed with what he heard about Everton in recent weeks.

Owen claims that he expected the Toffees would be awarded back a handful of points but for them to receive four is extraordinary.

He agrees that this awful news for the other relegation candidates, especially Brentford, who played West Ham on 26 February.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, Owen remarked (26 February, 7:33pm): “Absolutely huge. Four points is a nice little lift for them. We were hearing that they would get a few of points. Kick in the teeth for teams surrounding them, notably Brentford.”

The quiet before the storm for Everton?

The lowering of the 10-point deduction to six points is obviously excellent news for the team, as it alleviates some of the immediate pressure of relegation.

It lifts them up to 15th in the rankings, providing a buffer of five points above the bottom three.

However, it’s not ideal in the broader context as the Toffees still face uncertainties over another possible points loss due to a second accusation for breaking Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

If a precedent has been formed with a six-point punishment for the first infringement, a similar penalty may follow for the second charge, potentially plunging them back into a dangerous position in the relegation battle.

Additionally, the ongoing investigation and legal processes reflect adversely on the club’s financial management and stability, which might have long-term ramifications beyond simply the points deduction.

So, while the reduction brings short-term respite, there potentially are still issues and uncertainties moving forward and they have the takeover to navigate as well.

In other Everton news, Alan Shearer has been left knocked off his feet as unseen film emerges of a Toffees star v Brighton.
