With Manchester United playing Arsenal, the Belgian star has been the talk of the season.
Amadou Onana, an Everton midfielder, is apparently the target of an offer from Arsenal. The next summer transfer window doesn’t start for three months, but the Gunners already have a lot of competition as Manchester United and another club are rumored to have already submitted offers.
This season, the Belgian midfielder has made an impression at Goodison Park and has caught the attention of numerous European clubs. In addition to the Gunners and Red Devils expressing their intent, Barcelona, the dominant team in La Liga, has taken notice of the 22-year-old after his performances this 2023–2024 season.
It was discovered that not only are Mohamed Elneny and Jorginho out of contract this summer, but Thomas Partey has been linked to a move away from the Emirates, thus Mikel Arteta’s team will need to make a huge midfield addition.
The defensive midfielder, who was born in Senegal, has long been linked to the Gunners, but FFP laws prevented the Emirates team from making any moves for him during the most recent transfer window. But the Toffees have already received proposals from Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United and Arteta, according to Spanish publication Sport.
According to a Spanish newspaper, Barcelona would be willing to pay £34.2 million (€40 million) for the phenomenon, but the Belgian international is demanding the entire £51 million, which would be too much for Xavi’s team at Camp Nou.
The Everton player, who moved to England from Lille in 2022, has had a significant impact on the country, with this season possibly being his breakout year. PremierLeague.com reports that the 6’5″ presence has reached a season-high pace of 36.65 kmph (22.8 mph). This is 5 mph slower than Usain Bolt’s recorded maximum speed of 27.78 mph, but faster than any player for Arsenal this season.
With a top speed of 21 mph, William Saliba leads the Gunners in fastest man status. Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, and Bukayo Saka are next in line, but none of them can match Onana’s speed.
Even though it will take several months to reach an official agreement, the Gunners seem to be ahead in the race to sign the 22-year-old before the 2024–2025 season begins.
