Rangers fan media makes title claim after weekend drama.
Even if the top spot in the standings remained unchanged over the weekend, Rangers’ easy victory over Hearts and Celtic’s difficulty versus Motherwell both tell interesting tales.
When Steven Naismith led his team to Ibrox, they were among the best in Europe; but, despite his club’s recent spate of injuries, Philippe Clement orchestrated yet another outstanding performance.
At this point in the season, momentum is important. Heart and Hand’s David Edgar summed up what many Rangers supporters must be thinking as they go head-to-head with Celtic in what promises to be an exciting title battle.
Rangers are attempting to put pressure on Celtic.
Manager of the Gers, Paul Clement, was ecstatic with his team’s performance against Hearts.
We not only controlled possession but also limited them, requiring Jack Butland to make just a few saves.
Even better, for once, we weren’t throwing away opportunities.
Oscar Cortes, Mohamed Diomande, and Fabio Silva, in particular, scored well-taken goals to match the caliber of the build-up play.
They didn’t have it nearly as easy elsewhere in the city, but Motherwell’s terrible defense came to their aid.
It’s understandable why Stuart Kettlewell wasn’t pleased when he saw two center halves ignore the 6 foot 3 inch attacker who did nothing except wait for the cross.
However, this is just the most recent in a string of outcomes that have left Edgar feeling upbeat:
“To be honest, people, nothing I’ve seen this weekend has made me any less optimistic that we will win the league.”
Rangers put up a fantastic display against the best side in the nation despite being missing Danilo, Todd Cantwell, Rabbi Matondo, and Allah Sima in the attacking line.
Conversely, Celtic was playing at full strength against a team that has had difficulty for the majority of the season, and they were justifiably behind 1-0 at the break.
Edgar is correct; Philippe Clement’s philosophy is solely concerned with what Rangers do and keeping up the energy we’ve seen in recent weeks.
Celtic, on the other hand, switch around their lineup every week in the hopes that something would stay.
Though nothing has been gained as of yet, we are all too aware of what happens when you don’t play well and keep winning—finally, your luck runs out.
