Rangers: Connor Goldson shares honest verdict on Scottish Premiership title battle with Celtic

Rangers defender Connor Goldson has reiterated that he is taking nothing for granted in the title battle with Celtic. The Gers remain two points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership following victories for both teams at the weekend. Having seen off a previously in-form Hearts side 5-0 at Ibrox, Rangers now turn focus to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Wednesday (28 February). Asked about Rangers’ title prospects ahead of that game, Goldson is quoted by the Daily Record [25 February] as saying: “I know what you want me to say but it’s not going to happen. “We had a tough game on Saturday against the third team in the league and we’ve got the fourth team in the league on Wednesday. So we’re just going to concentrate on ourselves.“We’ve got a massive game on Wednesday at a tough place against a team that beat us earlier in the season 1-0, a team that’s beaten Celtic at home.“We know how hard it is to go there so we just need to focus on that and hopefully get another three points.”

Rangers face tough Kilmarnock test at Rugby Park

Celtic required a late goal to overcome Motherwell on Sunday (25 February), a day after Rangers thumped Hearts 5-0. The Light Blues are not only brushing aside all comers right now, they are doing so with the swagger of champions in waiting. Like Goldson, supporters will not get too far ahead of themselves. At the same time, fans have every right to feel confident about finishing top. The hope is that this run continues, as well as Celtic’s up-and-down form, in order to build up a bit of a gap ahead of the next Old Firm clash. It has been a remarkable turnaround from just a few months ago and this title triumph will be special should they see the job through. As the cliche goes, though, let’s take it one game at a time. Kilmarnock away in midweek is now the next cup final.
