Everton’s ten-point deduction has been lowered at last, with the independent panel seeing fit to refund four points to the Toffees.
It is a momentous verdict and one which sets an essential precedent for the rest of the campaign.
After all, both they and Nottingham Forest will have to prove their innocence once again.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the reporter shared an insight into what this judgment implies for the rest of the Premier League.

After a January transfer window which was made deathly silent due to Everton’s trial, it will undoubtedly free up some of the sides who were intimidated by the severity of the sentence.
Solhekol would claim, after revealing why worry should persist for the Toffees: ‘There are plenty of clubs who will be satisfied with what is occurring because a lot of clubs would be stating that we stuck by the regulations. Everton understood what the regulations were. Nottingham Forest knew what the rules were and for whatever reason they have broken the rules.
‘It has to be a level playing field for everybody. But I think that a lot of people in football would have a lot of compassion for Everton supporters and the situation that they are in.’
Everton must ensure they build on this now
Whilst it could be tempting to take their foot off the accelerator now that three is five points and three places between them and the relegation zone, this is probably the time to press on more than ever.
After all, there is another alleged breach to defend later in the season, and their present run of form is scarcely going to be enough to achieve the finish Sean Dyche will command.
They are yet to win a Premier League match in 2024 despite coming so close at the weekend, and if these extra four points will undoubtedly be crucial, they will rapidly be made redundant if they do not exploit this lightened pressure to spring themselves forward.
Fortunately, they boast a manager who has never taken anything for granted, and will continue to urge to his players the significance of a renewed approach.
They have an extraordinary and highly unexpected opportunity to do something remarkable this season, as they are just ten points off 11th-placed Chelsea.
Should they attain such a target, despite all the turbulence, Dyche would undoubtedly be a candidate for Manager of the Season.
