Abdoulaye Doucoure is optimistic that Everton will soon resume their winning ways and feels that he has recovered “stronger” from the hamstring injury that kept him out of action for ten games in December and February.
After bouncing back from a hamstring injury to start against Crystal Palace the previous week, the vital midfield player was back in Sean Dyche’s starting lineup for Saturday’s 1-1 away loss at Brighton & Hove Albion on the south coast.
As the most advanced player for Everton, Doucoure played a familiar role. He was once again unrelenting in his running and was unfortunate not to have scored his seventh Premier League goal of the season when Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey cleared his beautifully struck volley midway through the second half.
Regarding the attempt to evertontv, the midfield player remarked, “It felt very close.” “I haven’t watched it again, but I recall that Dwight hit a flawless ball and I made a nice volley.” But Tariq also made a great stop, so props to him for that.
“I’m so happy to be back out there for the Blues,” Doucoure said. Being unable to work was really annoying because I detest getting hurt.
“I obviously recovered, but I had another injury, which was a major setback. However, I’ve returned stronger than before, and I still want to support the squad. With every game I play, I’m coming closer to being fully healthy. The Brighton match was an even better performance than the last one [against Crystal Palace]. I’m hoping to perform at my peak again.
With Saturday’s 1-1 draw, Everton’s current winning streak now stands at just two losses in their previous nine games, one of which was on the road against Premier League, European, and world champion Manchester City.
Lewis Dunk of Brighton, however, equalized late in second-half stoppage time to save a point for the home team, so it was very almost more. Thinking back on that setback, Doucoure acknowledged that the club is eager to start converting some of these strong moments into wins, but he also thinks they are getting closer to doing so.
He said, “We are very close.” “You see, we had a great chance to win the game on Saturday. We haven’t had as many victories lately, obviously, but they will eventually arrive.
“We put in a lot of effort and everyone is committed to their work, so maybe we can win at home against West Ham on Saturday in front of our supporters.
“We have to attack West Ham from the off. We are aware of their strength and hardness as a team. However, we are playing well right now, and I believe we should be aiming for victory.
