“Don’t want to be in his shoes” – Rangers man in ‘sensitive’ situation, manager has tough decision to make this summer.
Ianis Hagi was given permission by Rangers to sign a loan agreement with Deportivo Alavés last summer, months before Philippe Clement got to Ibrox. In 22 appearances this season, the attacking midfielder has two goals and one assist.
The Rangers player has only played in three games in 2024, totaling less than 100 minutes, and there are doubts about whether he will be included in Romania’s Euro squad.
Fanatik has discussed the “sensitive subject” pertaining to the player who is owned by Ibrox. Hagi’s lack of playing time should be eliminated from the national team roster if former Romanian manager Anghel Iordănescu’s suggestion doesn’t change by the end of the season.
Despite Radu Drăgușin’s circumstances at Tottenham Hotspur, football agent Victor Becali asserts that Romanian manager Edward Iordănescu must choose Radu Drăgușin for the European championship.
Becali, however, asserted that the national team boss cannot leave the 25-year-old out if he keeps the Spurs player in his squad despite the player’s lack of playing time when asked if the Rangers player should be left out for the Euros.
“He [Hagi] can be selected too if it’s the same for everyone [being chosen despite having little playing time at the club]. He cannot be selective otherwise. “Yes, that one, no,” he said.
“There have always been issues and there will continue to be issues, but what matters is that we are present and that we are eligible. Naturally, the coach’s issues now… You know what they say about all coaches when they get there and get settled in. “Players who don’t play don’t make the squad, in my opinion!” That is the board of selectors.
Becali went on to say that whether or not Iordănescu chooses the Rangers midfield player, he will receive criticism.
“As it frequently was. And it will go on; do you really believe Edi won’t be criticized? Are you ready for me to tell you something now? When you have to make all these choices, you don’t want to be in his position. Even for him, it’s not simple. Because he would have a wide selection of players if he had a big pool. Regretfully, there aren’t many options available to us,” Becali said.
Now that we’ve qualified, let’s see what comes next. They will judge him based on what comes next, disregarding his qualifications. And that’s typical.
Hagi’s contract with Ibrox expires in 2026, and Philippe Clement will not be happy with his current circumstances at the Spanish team.
