‘Corruption’ – Exclusive: Keith Wyness delivers instant reaction to Everton points deduction news

Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has revealed friends and fans of the club believe the club’s points deduction is the result of a “major fix at the Premier League”.

The 66-year-old, who currently operates a football consultancy advising elite teams, spoke exclusively to Football Insider and stated that accusations of “corruption” have been made against the league due to its lack of transparency. He previously served as CEO of Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009.On Monday, February 26, the Premier League announced that Everton’s point sanction for violating the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) was lowered from ten to six after an appeal. Two of the nine grounds on which the Merseysiders challenged the 10-point punishment were upheld. The initial finding that Everton had acted in bad faith has been successfully overturned. The second point was centred around the punishment – which the club felt was unfair considering the scale of the breach.

“I just read the two-page summary which has come from the Premier League about the appeal – and Everton had argued nine points,” Wyness said to Football Insider.Seven of those were turned down.”The league acknowledged that it misjudged two points: first, that Everton did not behave badly, which is critical to the club’s standing.Secondly, the penalty was lowered to six points because it was determined to be unjust.”We haven’t seen the specifics of the other seven arguments being rejected yet.

“I’ve heard from friends and other Everton supporters that it’s still a major fix at the Premier League,”Everyone is quite unhappy and continues to think that this has been decided by a dishonest system.”While corruption may be a strong term, other ideas have taken the place of transparency in the process.””It’s critical that a league with this level of respect be operating in a far more effective manner.”
