Rangers struck gold on free transfer who could make them a “fortune”

Under Philippe Clement, Glasgow Rangers have had a significant revival. The Belgian manager took over a struggling team and has subsequently regained the confidence required to ensure the Gers can compete with Celtic.

They are now vying for the Premiership crown and have gained momentum with their recent performance.

Since taking over, the 49-year-old has faced numerous injury issues in his club, including missing eight players during the holiday season.

This meant he had to adjust his roster and play a few players out of position in order to keep them in shape during matches.

The most noteworthy alteration was the addition of Dujon Sterling, who has played in a variety of positions under Clement and has performed admirably in each, demonstrating that the Ibrox club has bought a competent player who can modify his game to meet the needs of the team.

Dujon Sterling was among Michael Beale’s first recruits.

Following the trophyless 2022/23 season, Michael Beale planned a summer rebuild that would hopefully provide him with a foundation for building a team capable of challenging Celtic.

In May of last year, the versatile defender signed a pre-contract agreement with the Light Blues, which initially appeared to be a reliable addition.

“I am delighted to welcome Dujon to Rangers, he is an exciting young player who, I’m sure, will be a great addition to our squad,” Beale said, welcoming Sterling to Glasgow.

“He is a very powerful and strong defender, who has fantastic attacking qualities and I look forward to working with him at Rangers.”

The former manager praised Sterling, and more depth in the defence was needed, which he would provide.

Despite experiencing several highs and lows throughout his first year in Scotland, his market value has skyrocketed as a result of his performances.

Dujon Sterling’s market worth at Chelsea

The Englishman began his career at Chelsea, but made only two appearances for them in 2017/18.

According to Football Transfers, his market worth at the time was €2.4 million (£2 million). However, he did not make the grade at the Blues and had to rely on loans for the next five seasons to play regularly.

Sterling appeared in 38 League One matches and 58 Championship games during this time, but the opportunity to join Rangers was too appealing to pass up.

It has subsequently shown to be an intelligent move, as his market worth has increased, and if he maintains his current form, it will undoubtedly climb immensely.

Despite only playing 21 matches for the Ibrox club since signing last summer, the Englishman has emerged as a player Clement can rely on to fill voids when key players are absent.

According to Football Transfers, his market value has climbed to €3.1 million (£2.6 million), which is a fair price for a player who did not cost the Gers anything.

The 24-year-old has yet to hit his prime, and the more games he plays over the next few years, the better he will perform.

Dujon Sterling’s Season in Numbers

While Beale made the move to bring the kid to Scotland, he only appeared seven times for the Englishman because he could not break into the starting lineup.

Clement made a number of appearances in the early stages of his rule, but it wasn’t until the Gers faced a midfield crisis that the Belgian went to Sterling for help.
